چکیده

This paper investigates the second order properties of a stationary process after random sampling. While a short memory process gives always rise to a short memory one, we prove that long-memory can disappear when the sampling law has heavy enough tails. We prove that under rather general conditions the existence of the spectral density is preserved by random sampling. We also investigate the effects of deterministic sampling on seasonal long-memory. keywords: Aliasing, FARIMA Processes, Generalised Fractional Processes, Regularly varying covariance, Seasonal long-memory, Spectral density MS 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 60G10 60G12 62M10 62M15

Uses of Cumulants in Wavelet Analysis

Cumulants are useful in studying nonlinear phenomena and in developing (approximate) statistical properties of quantities computed from random process data. Wavelet analysis is a powerful tool for the approximation and estimation of curves and surfaces. This work considers both wavelets and cumulants, developing some sampling properties of linear wavelet fits to a signal in the presence of addi...

Processes with Long Memory: Regenerative Construction and Perfect Simulation

We present a perfect simulation algorithm for stationary processes indexed by Z, with summable memory decay. Depending on the decay, we construct the process on finite or semiinfinite intervals, explicitly from an i.i.d. uniform sequence. Even though the process has infinite memory, its value at time 0 depends only on a finite, but random, number of these uniform variables. The algorithm is bas...

Sampling-Reconstruction Procedure with a Limited Number of Samples of Stochastic Processes at Random Times

The review of author’s publications is presented. All papers are based on the same methodological approach: the statistical description of the Sampling Reconstruction Procedure (SRP) is given on the basis of the classical conditional mean rule which provides the minimum reconstruction error. There are two cases of non uniform sampling: the sample location is arbitrary and known and the location...

Second Moment of Queue Size with Stationary Arrival Processes and Arbitrary Queue Discipline

In this paper we consider a queuing system in which the service times of customers are independent and identically distributed random variables, the arrival process is stationary and has the property of orderliness, and the queue discipline is arbitrary. For this queuing system we obtain the steady state second moment of the queue size in terms of the stationary waiting time distribution of a s...

Further comments on the representation problem for stationary processes

We comment on some points about the coding of stochastic processes by sequences of independent random variables. The most interesting question has to do with the standardness property of the filtration generated by the process, in the framework of Vershik’s theory of filtrations. Non-standardness indicates the presence of long memory in a purely probabilistic sense. We aim to provide a short, n...
